A
number of years ago I had this very vivid dream, that to this day I can
remember as if I had it last night. I was walking down the street of a large
city, picture downtown Chicago or Manhattan.
Amidst the city noises I hear this
melody, it was a man singing and playing guitar. I started looking around to see
where it was coming from. In the distance I saw him. The music was calming and
smooth but the man looked dangerous, unkempt, and scary. I
already was in a city I didn’t know, alone, not sure of what to do and so, out
of fear, I turned and started to walk away from him. His music came after me
and compelled me to turn back around. I faced my fears and decided to venture
closer. The closer I got, the more my anxiety left me. Now, within feet of this
man, I realized he was Jesus. All I could do was sit at His feet and listen to
the message in His song. I have no idea how long I sat there, I just remember
not wanting it to end.
I
share this past memory with you to encourage you that in this unique time,
Jesus is still here with us. He is watching over you and me, and no matter what
happens next, His love does not change. Sometimes in life we are asked to face
our fears and conquer our anxieties. I believe this is one of those times.
While you are home, social distancing, be sure you don’t social distance from
God. Spend time with Him today. Be
still and let Him minister to you at a very deep and personal level. Perhaps He
misses us and in this current crisis He is asking us to spend time with Him
again. Sometimes we get so busy being busy that we don’t even remember the last
time we just got still and spent quality AND quantity time with
God.
Recently, I have been witnessing three types of people. The foolish who go about
their daily routines as if nothing has changed. The immobilized who live in
fear and panic, glued to the TV or the internet, reading everything they can
find on COVID-19. The calm who are
taking necessary precautions but also finding new ways to connect with others
and not living in fear of tomorrow.
May
you be crowned with knowledge (Proverbs 14:18)
May
you trust in the Lord with all your heart (Proverbs 3:5)
And,
may you find your peace in God (John 16:33)
